What's That Green Thing On College Football Coach’s Sleeve This Weekend?

September 27, 2019 by Staff

The green thing on your favorite college football coach’s sleeve this weekend is the logo for "Coach to Cure MD", presented by Werner Ladder. It’s the charity initiative of the American Football Coaches Association.

This week is the culmination of the AFCA’s push to raise awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, the most prolific genetic killer of young men.

It’s a brutal, awful disease. Boys are diagnosed at 3 or so years old - and you’d never know it. But inside they’re muscles are deteriorating. By the time they’re in their teenage years, they’ll be using wheelchairs. And in their 20s, they’ll be fighting for their lives. This disease is 100% fatal. There is no cure - yet. But that’s why college football coaches are involved for the 12th consecutive year.

Football fans are encouraged to get involved by:

  1. engaging with @CoachToCureMD on social media
  2. visiting CoachToCureMD.org to donate or learn more
  3. texting the word CURE to 501501 to give $25

With nearly 10,000 coaches participating, including 90% of D-1FBS coaches, this is the largest charity initiative in college football. At many schools, Duchenne MD boys have visited practice this week, or are serving as honorary captains and coin-tossers.

You can help spread the word with the social media tweets below.
