NOTE: Among other awards, CollegeFootballPoll.com's Dave Congrove is a voter for the Maxwell, Bednarik, Ray Guy, and Lou Groza awards, and a nominating member of the Bronko Nagurski Award.

Each week during the 2022 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive player. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch list.

Additionally, the Augusta Sports Council announces the Ray Guy Award top punter each week, the FWAA announces the weekly Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week, and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission recognizes top-placer kickers each week in contention for the Lou Groza Award.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week - QB Tanner Mordecai, SMU

The 6-3, 214-pound quarterback from Waco, Texas went 28-37 for 379 passing yards with 9 TD in Saturday's 77-63 win over the University of Houston. He added another 54 yards and a touchdown on the ground. With the win against Houston, SMU is now 5-4 and one win away from bowl eligibility. Mordecai and the Mustangs head to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida to take on the University of South Florida Bulls this Saturday, a team that just fired head coach Jeff Scott on Sunday and is 1-8 on the season.

Bednarik Award Defensive Player of the Week - DL Jalen Carter, Georgia

In Saturday’s 27-13 win over #1 Tennessee. The 6-3, 300-pound junior from Apopka, Florida, Jalen Carter added 4 tackles, a sack, and 2 forced fumbles to the terrorizing Bulldogs defense. Georgia continues to stay at the top of the AP Top 25 poll for Week 11. Carter and the Bulldogs look to keep their momentum going in their matchup in Starkville, Mississippi this weekend against Mississippi State.

Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week - LB Jaylon ForD, Texas

Ford had a hand in three takeaways and a team-leading 10 tackles to lead the Texas defense in a 34-27 win at No. 13 Kansas State. Most importantly, his fumble recovery sealed the win in the final minute, Ford’s interception came in the second quarter after Texas (6-3) had shot out to an early lead. His return of 18 yards to the Wildcats’ 27-yard line set up a Longhorns touchdown off the short field and a 31-10 halftime lead. Ford had six solo tackles as part of his game-high 10 and forced another fumble in the third quarter. This week was Ford’s second Big 12’s Defensive Player of the Week honor in three weeks; he also garnered it Oct. 15 after he intercepted a pass in the end zone and had another game-clinching fumble recovery in the final moments of a 24-21 win over Iowa State.

The Longhorns have a well-represented past with the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. Cedric Reed (2014), Aaron Ross (2006) and Derrick Johnson (2003) also won earlier weekly awards. Former Longhorns Brian Orakpo (DE, 2008) and Derrick Johnson (LB, 2004) are previous winners of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and defensive tackle Malcom Brown was a finalist in 2014.

Texas, which returned to the AP’s Top 25 this week at No. 18, hosts No. 4 TCU in an ABC primetime game at 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday.

Ray Guy Punter of the Week - Bryce Baringer of Michigan State

Baringer punted 5 times during the game against Illinois for a total of 248 yards. His gross average was 49.6 and his net average was 49.2 yards due to him having only 1 punt returned for 2 yards. Four of his punts ended up inside Illinois's 20-yard line and he had a long punt of 68 yards.

Lou Groza Award Recognizes NC State's Dunn, Alabama's Will Reichard, Marshall's Rece Verhoff

NC State's Christopher Dunn continued his perfect season, kicking three field goals in the Wolfpack’s 30-21 defeat of Wake Forrest in ACC action in Raleigh, N.C. on Saturday. He is one of only five kickers in the nation who have yet to miss a kick of any kind this season.

Alabama's Will Reichard kicked four field goals, including a 46 yarder with 21 seconds left in regulation, but Alabama fell to LSU 32-31

Marshall's Rece Verhoff’s four field goals provided all the scoring in Marshall’s 12-0 blanking of Old Dominion
