3 QBs Who Are in Contention for First Overall Pick in 2023 NFL Draft

February 7, 2023 by Staff

The 2023 NFL Draft allows all 32 franchises to improve their roster with the leading talented college football players. Those eligible for selection at the NFL Draft will be hoping to be taken in the first round. Some of those will even be in consideration to be the first overall pick, which will go to the Chicago Bears, unless there is a trade.

In the last eight NFL Drafts, seven of the eight first overall picks have been quarterbacks, including in 2021 when the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Trevor Lawrence. The teams which will be recruiting a QB this year will be hoping to find a player like Jalen Hurts or Patrick Mahomes. Those two players have led their franchises to the Super Bowl this year.

Hurts was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020. In his third campaign with the franchise, he finished the campaign with a 14-1 record. His side is the odds-on favorites at -150 at https://www.bodog.eu/super-bowl-betting to defeat the Chiefs and lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy following Super Bowl LVII.

Here is a look at three talented quarterbacks who are in contention to be the first overall pick in the NFL draft and, like Hurts and Mahomes, they could be future stars of the league in the near future.

Bryce Young (Alabama)

As you can read on https://www.ncaa.com/news/football, Alabama QB Bryce Young won the Heisman Trophy in 2021 following a fantastic season for Crimson Tide. He broke several Alabama records that year, including the most passing yards in a single game. He ended a match against Arkansas with 559 yards.

Young finished his college career with a 23-4 record. He did not start a game in Crimson Tide’s National Championship success in 2020, but he featured in seven matches, including in the final when he took the knee which sealed the victory over Ohio State.

Many franchises will see Young as a player who can start as their quarterback in week one of the 2023 season. The Bears may have to decide if they want to add the Alabama man alongside their current roster of QBs, or they may choose to accept a trade on a draft night and move down the board.

CJ Stroud (Ohio State)

Ohio State’s CJ Stroud scored six touchdowns in a game on three occasions during his three years with the Buckeyes. He was named a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2021 and 2022.

Stroud scored 81 passing touchdowns and threw for an impressive 7,775 yards in the 24 games he started in college football. He finished with his best year in 2022, as he won 11 of his 13 matches.

Like many of the quarterbacks in the NFL today, Stroud is just as comfortable with his feet as he is with his arm. He is going to be an exciting player to watch in the league once he is drafted.

Will Levis (Kentucky)

Kentucky’s Will Levis is a player who ranks very highly on many people’s draft rankings. He has played four years of college football. The exciting QB featured for Penn State Nittany Lions for two years. He then switched to Kentucky in 2021, as you can read on https://www.centredaily.com/sports/college.

As well as scoring 24 passing touchdowns in the 2021 season, he recorded nine rushing touchdowns, which reflects how comfortable he is outside of the pocket and on the move. That is likely to interest a lot of teams in the NFL.

Levis was named in the Football Academic All-America Team of the Year in 2022. With his experience, teams will most likely draft him to play straight away.

The 2023 NFL Draft takes place between April 27-29 at Union Station in Kansas City.
