Super 16 Poll: LSU Leaps From 4th to 2nd as Alabama Remains No. 1

October 13, 2019 by NFF and CFP

Alabama is No. 1 for a third straight week in the new FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll released today. The poll is voted on by a panel of football writers and college football Hall Of Fame members.

LSU jumped from 4th to 2nd after beating previously unbeaten Florida, while idle Ohio State dropped to 3rd. Clemson slipped to 4th, despite handily defeating Florida State.

Oklahoma rounds out the Top 5.

Alabama collected 28 first-place votes, followed by LSU with 7, Ohio State with 6 and Clemson with 5.

Georgia took the biggest fall from No. 5 to No. 10 after its surprising home loss to un-ranked South Carolina. Otherwise, there was little movement in the poll that contains the same 16 teams as a week ago.

The SEC leads all conferences with five teams, with the Big Ten taking four slots. The Big 12 and PAC-12 each have two teams in the poll, while the ACC, Independents and MWC have one apiece.

About the Poll

The poll was established at the conclusion of the 2013 season by long-time partners, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and the results will be released every Sunday of the 2019 season; the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective.
