Randy Moss, Kevin Hardy, the Colorado Buffaloes, Notre Dame recruiting, college rivalries, and girls flag football are among the interesting subjects worth reading about in stories posted by various outlets over the past several days as we await the start of the 2025 FBS, FCS and NFL seasons.
- It was announced on July 1 that 2024 NFF College Football Hall of Fame inductee Randy Moss will return to ESPN's NFL Sunday Countdown pre-game show after undergoing treatment for cancer.
- In the latest episode of the Good in the Game Podcast, host LaVar Arrington sits down with the Fighting Illini's Kevin Hardy to chat about how he fit in with the famed 90s linebackers at Illinois, what got him into the game and how he thought he'd be able to wear number 50 at UI (hint...the legend who's award he won in 1995 went to UI and wore number 50...there was no shot!). You can listen on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.
- Austin Swain, in an article at FanDuel Research, explores how the Colorado Buffaloes will fare in 2025 without Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. Swain notes that Coach Prime, Deion Sanders, has a lot to replace with just the loss of those two prolific players.
The Buffs were last in rushing yards per game as an offense (65.7) by over 10 yards more than any other FBS program, relying on Shedeur Sanders' arm and his variety of weapons. Sanders answered the call with 4,134 passing yards, an FBS-record 74.0% completion rate, and a 3.7 TD:INT ratio. That wasn't enough to earn him the Heisman, because teammate Hunter posted 1,258 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns as a wideout on offense, and he had 4 interceptions as a lockdown corner on defense. He played a ridiculous 112.3 snaps per game in 2024. It's not difficult to comprehend why Colorado has the 5th-lowest odds (out of 16 teams) of winning the Big 12 in in 2025.
- The Monday Morning Quarterback Club of Birmingham, Alabama, a chapter of the National Football Foundation, will present the Nick Saban Legacy Award to coaches David Cutcliffe and the late Pat Dye on August 18 during an event in Birmingham. Lauren Sisler and Rick Neuheisel will emcee, and Nick and Terry Saban will be on hand as the guests of honor. Dye headed programs at East Carolina, Wyoming, and Auburn, and he was inducted into the NFF College Football Hall of Fame in 2005. Cutcliffe led programs at Ole Miss and Duke. Saban is a member of the 2025 NFF College Football Hall of Fame Class.
- There are so many great rivalries all across the college football landscape. So, which one is the best? The Athletic has ranked college football’s 100 best rivalries. Who earned the top spot?
- Read how a girls' high school flag football team was built from scratch in St. Louis and claimed the title in its first season.
