The state of Missouri is loaded with sports teams, from the Major League Baseball Cardinals to the NHL Blues and the UFL Battlehawks in St. Louis, to the Missouri Tigers in the SEC.
This year, you can add Missouri State to the list as the Bears move up from the FCS to the FBS.
Yet, as of September 4th of 2025, the"Show Me" state is among the dwindling number that don't permit traditional sports betting. However, Missouri daily fantasy sports lists such major players as Draft Kings and FanDuel among those operating Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) contests which have been legally allowed since 2016.
The Missouri Tigers blasted on to the scene soon after joining the SEC in 2012 and found themselves playing in Atlanta for conference titles in 2013 and 2014, but coming up short against Auburn and Alabama.
Missouri is coming off a 10-3 season in 2024 which was the fourth for head coach Eli Drinkwitz. The Tigers ran the table at home (7-0) and all three road losses came against ranked foes - Texas A&M, Alabama and South Carolina.
Given those results, one might expected that Missouri had earned some national clout, but the Tigers are being dismissed by a lot of pundits and prognosticators in 2025. Getting blown out 41-10 at Texas A&M, and 31-0 at Alabama is likely a part of that dynamic, but this was a team that was nationally ranked every week a year ago, and climbed as high as No. 6 after a 3-0 start.
How badly is Missouri being overlooked? Only the Congrove Computer Rankings at CollegeFootballPoll.com and DRatings.com have Missouri picked to finish higher than 6th in the stacked SEC.
The Tigers are not ranked in any of the major polls - AP, Coaches or Super 16 - though ESPN's FPI has them at No. 21 and Congrove's rankings have them at No 12.
Missouri opened the season last Thursday with a 61-6 romp over FCS member Central Arkansas.
After redshirt junior Sam Horn went down with a knee injury on the first play of the game, Penn State senior transfer Beau Pribula came in and tore it up, completing 23-of-28 throws for 283 yards and two touchdowns. He ran for two more scores as part of a 65-yard rushing effort on 10 carries.
Running back Ahmad Hardy had 10 totes for 100 yards, and Marquis Johnson had 5 catches for 134 yards and a score as the Tigers rolled up 560 yards of offense.
Missouri has five straight home games to start the season, including Kansas this Saturday, South Carolina on September 20 and Alabama on October 11 after a bye week. They later get Texas A&M in Columbia on November 8 after the second bye week.
The upcoming Border War rivalry game against the Jayhawks is being renewed for the first time since 2011 when Mizzou made that migration to the SEC before the start of the following season.
Missouri leads the series 56-55-9.
The Jayhawks are 2-0 with home wins over Fresno State (week zero), 31-7, and FCS Wagner over the Labor Day weekend by a 46-7 count.
Forget "show me". When all is said and done, this is quite possibly stacking up as a year for Missouri to show everybody.
