Seven-in-a-row Not Enough

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Picking USC to win the PAC-10 football title has become so mundane that the conference didn't even bother to change its headline from last season. The official release said 'USC tabbed to win PAC-10 in Preseason Media Poll (Again)', which was precisely last year's release headline.
This is the seventh consecutive year the Trojans have been voted as the team to beat.
USC finished 12-1 overall last year, 8-1 in PAC-10 play. They were followed closely by Oregon and Oregon State's identical 7-2 conference marks. The Ducks and Beavers were voted 3rd and 6th, respectively, in last year's balloting. This year, the Ducks were again voted 3rd, but the Beavers jumped up to 4th.
California took the runner-up spot and was listed in first place on 3 of the ballots submitted. Oregon received 1 first-place vote while the rest went to the Trojans.
32 members participated in this season's poll, down from 39 in recent years.
The conference media poll has been proven correct with its' No. 1 choice in each of the past nine seasons. Our preseason picks, based on the Congrove Computer Rankings, have been correct in the last 7-of-9 seasons. Both the PAC-10 media and the Congrove Rankings have been right 11 of the last 16 times.
