Texas Tech upset Arizona State 37-23 in the Holiday Bowl as David Webb threw four touchdown passes, all in the first half.
The Red Raiders opened a 27-6 lead and then kept the Sun Devils at arms length the rest of the game. ASU had its chances to rally, but a 1st-and-goal at the 1 produced 0 points just before halftime, and a long bomb touchdown pass early in the 4th quarter was simply dropped.
When Arizona State did get to within 7 points in the 3rd quarter, Texas Tech's Reginald Davis returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards to promptly raise the lead back to 14.
Arizona State dropped to 0-4 in Holiday Bowls and 13-13-1 overall as it finished the season with a 10-4 record by losing its last two games, the PAC-12 Championship and the bowl game.
It was the fourth straight bowl win for Texas Tech and the 9th in its last 11.
Under first-year head coach and former star quarterback Kliff Kingsbury, the Red Raiders opened the season with 7 straight wins and closed with 5 consecutive losses before the bowl victory.
The Congrove Computer Rankings at CollegeFootballPoll.com had forecasted a 10.88-point victory for Arizona State.
