Louisiana quarterback Terrance Broadway set a school record for total offense in a season as the Ragin' Cajuns downed East Carolina 43-34 in the New Orleans Bowl on Saturday (December 22).
It was Louisiana's second consecutive bowl win after tripping San Diego State 32-30 in this game last year. They are the only two bowl appearances in school history for UL-L.
Broadway ran his season offense total to 3,612 yards with 317 yards passing and 108 yards rushing against the Pirates.
Louisiana never trailed in the game, but did see its 28-7 lead get completely erased and wind up in a 31-31 tie with 5:57 left in the 3rd quarter.
Alonzo Harris ran for 121 yards and 2 TD"s for the Ragin' Cajuns. Reggie Bullock had 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns for East Carolina.
Louisiana-Lafayette amassed 591 total yards and East Carolina had 416 as the teams combined for 1,007. The teams also combined to score a record-tying 45 points in the second quarter.
East Carolina saw its bowl record drop to 5-8 with a 4th straight bowl loss.
The Congrove Computer Rankings had the Ragin' Cajuns tabbed as the projected victor by 6.95 points.
The computer's preseason forecast nailed Louisiana's regular season record of 8-4 while East Carolina slightly out-performed the computer's projection of a 6-6 regular season.
