BCS NEWS and NOTES
Schools appearing for first time in 2011 BCS Top 25: None.
Dropped out of BCS Top 25: No. 25 Missouri
LSU becomes the fifth team in BCS history to go wire-to-wire at No. 1 in the 14-year history of the BCS. The last time this feat was accomplished was in 2006 by Ohio State.
LSU becomes the first team in the history of the BCS to sit atop the final Standings with a perfect 1.000 score.
LSU and Alabama become the first schools from the same conference to meet in the BCS Championship. The SEC foes are the first title-game participants to stage a rematch of a regular season match-up. Additionally, they join USC and Texas (2005) as the only Nos. 1-2 in the initial Standings to meet for the title.
LSU ties Florida State and Ohio State for the second-most title game appearances with three (3). Oklahoma has the most with four (4).
If the Tigers defeat Alabama in the Allstate BCS National Championship, they will become the first school in history to win three BCS crowns.
The .0086 difference between Alabama and Oklahoma State is the smallest margin of difference between the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the final Standings since 2004 (under the new scoring system).
The following schools boast the highest-ever rank in the BCS Final Standings: No. 3 Oklahoma State; No. 4 Stanford (tie), No. 6 Arkansas; No. 9 South Carolina; No. 12 Baylor; No. 19 Houston; and No. 21 Southern Miss.
