One of the most popular sports in the USA is American football. In fact, numerous elite NFL players are well-known for their talent and skill throughout the world. However, NFL players do excel at playing American football, but a number of them are prominent players in casinos. As a result, many NFL players have been seen placing bets at different casinos and bookmakers across the country.

So, if you want to find out which NFL players love to play poker and bet, tune in!

Calvin Ridley

Calvin Ridley, the receiver for Atlanta Falcons, became the fifth NFL player to receive a suspension for gambling. Namely, the 27-year-old took a mental health-related leave from his club back in November 2020.

However, an official investigation later revealed that the Falcons receiver has placed multiple bets. These bets involved his own team which is potentially illegal. Needless to say, Ridley received a year-long ban that would see him sit out the entirety of the 2022 season.

Additionally, Commissioner Roger Goodell went on to say that Ridley had placed bets during the five-day period he was away from the team. Luckily investigation determined that the player wasn't using any inside information and that his teammates and coaches weren’t aware of the betting.

Apparently, Ridley had placed three parlays between 23rd and 28th November. He also likely used an online casino with fastest payout while he was in Florida. Unfortunately for him, the sports betting data monitoring agency for the NFL sounded the alarm. After all, these things are monitored and they had reason to believe that player made the bet.

Josh Shaw

Josh Shaw is an American football cornerback for the Birmingham Stallions and was one of the most expensive cornerbacks in the NFL.  He started playing college football at the University of Southern California. Later he started playing professionally for the Cincinnati Bengals between 2015 and 2017.

Josh Shaw does have quite an interesting career when it comes to American football, as he has played for 5 different teams. After the Bengals, he played for Kansas City Chiefs in 2018, Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018, and Arizona Cardinals in 2019. Then he started playing with Birmingham Stallions in 2022.

As the rumors have it, the player has a fairly public admiration for betting and gambling.  Additionally, he appreciates reading gaming articles that resemble the Nostalgia Casino Review because it aids him in selecting the ideal operator. One time, an American cornerback was suspended from playing American football in 2019 for gambling on football games. This comes as no surprise as in the USA active NFL players is permitted to gamble. However, Josh got away with no charges as no evidence was found.

Terrel Owens

Terrel Owens, well known by his fandom as T.O. He plays wide receiver with the fan-controlled team, Knights of Degen. He spent 16 seasons as a player in the National Football League or the NFL. Owens, who ranks third in his career, has won many awards and honors and is recognized as one of the greatest wide receivers of all time.

Terrel played for many different American football teams in his career.

  1. Philadelphia Eagles in 2004-2005
  2. Dallas Cowboys from 2006-2008
  3. Seattle Seahawks in 2012.

In addition to being chosen for the Pro Bowl six times and the first team of the All-Pro teams five times, Owens generated a lot of controversy throughout his pro football career and garnered notice for his extravagant foal celebrations. In 2018, Terell entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He is one of the most recognizable athletes that enjoy gambling in casinos. Additionally,  there are photos of him placing bets and participating in casino games, especially poker. He was once forbidden from playing poker with other students. There was an ongoing concern that he would steal all their money.

Davante Adams

Even though Adams has never received a suspension for gambling, he makes the list because of his sponsorship. Namely, the Raiders' All-Pro became the first active American football player to have a betting-related sponsor.

According to the betting company, Davante Adams became one of their brand ambassadors after he signed a deal to promote their brand and participate in special events at their casino resort. However, the wide receiver isn't required to be involved with their online sports betting.

Additionally, the same company also sponsors Barry Sanders, a Detroit Lions and NFL legend. When asked about their recent acquisition, the betting company's vice president said that Adams is a "class act on and off the field" and that they're excited to work with NFL's elite players. Perhaps, this sponsorship may be the start of a new era in the NFL.
