Weekend Recap - Kennesaw, Holy Cross, Southern Illinois Among Teams To Advance

The college football playoffs are underway. In early games, Kennesaw State eliminated Davidson, and Holy Cross got by Sacred Heart on Matthew Sluka's 35-yard pass to Jalen Coker with 14 seconds left.

Later, Incarnate Word, UT-Martin, South Dakota State, Eastern Washington, Southern Illinois and SE Louisiana each won their respective games to move on to the next round.

There were three other games outside the playoffs this week - Alabama State won 43-9 over Tuskegee on Thursday in the Turkey Day Classic, Grambling upset Southern 29-26 in the Bayou Classic on Saturday night in New Orleans, and a make-up game with Mississippi Valley State at Prairie View A&M saw the Delta Devils upset the Panthers 24-19.

Prairie View plays at Jackson State next Saturday at 4 p.m. eastern time for the SWAC Championship.

NCAA Playoffs

10 of the 24 teams in this year's field also comprised part of the16-team field in the payoffs that were just held this past Spring. The returning programs are led by defending champion Sam Houston State and the team the Bearkats defeated to win the tile, South Dakota State. Also back in the hunt are North Dakota State, James Madison, Sacred Hart, Holy Cross, Davidson, Eastern Washington, Missouri State and Southern Illinois.
