The West Virginia Mountaineers have had many years of success when it comes to college football. This football program began back in 1891 and is now considered to be one of the strongest college football teams playing. The Mountaineers are an NCAA Division I team that competes in the Big 12 Conference. Learn more about the history of this famous WV team, great success stories, and significant team sponsors that have supported, and continue to support WVU.
Over the years, the Mountaineers have put up many wins and have attracted a large fan base. With an impressive win total, this is also one of the few leading college teams that have not won a National Championship. Multiple Conference Titles have been won, with their last being in 2011. In total, this team has won 15 conference titles, including 8 Southern titles and 7 Big East titles.
Individual players to don a WVU uniform have set numerous records that may never be broken. The West Virginia Mountaineers' history of success stems from some of the best coachings in the game, along with talent on the field. As a result, the team has had an undefeated season, 5 11-win seasons, and 30 appearances at Bowls.
Many players have been drafted to NFL teams and enjoy successful professional careers. Some former WVU players now playing professional football include:

Part of the history of the team lies in their home field facility. Home games were first played in Morgantown, West Virginia, and a permanent home field was constructed in 1924. This stadium grew in capacity until it reached its peak in 1979. Due to reaching peak capacity, there was a need for a giant stadium, so it was relocated to a new spot and named Mountaineer Field. Since 1980, Mountaineer Field has hosted home games, and after multiple additions, it had a total capacity of 60,000. The stadium was later named Milan Puskar Stadium in 2003.
Sponsors play a pivotal role in the success of college football programs. Over the years, many leading companies in West Virginia have sponsored Mountaineers football and have supported them through successful seasons. Today, multiple corporate sponsors funnel money into this athletic program in hopes of seeing these WVU Mountaineers obtain a National title. These companies include:

As the team continues with successful seasons, many other sponsorships will emerge. At this time, there are very few online casino sites or online sportsbooks that are sponsoring college teams. However, as more sportsbooks launch and NCAA football betting continues to attract bettors, it is quite possible for West Virginia online casino sites to start sponsoring teams. Since the West Virginia Lottery is one of the main backers of WVU Mountaineers, we may see operating casinos also offering sponsorship agreements to WVU. At this point, no deals are being discussed, but operators who are already providing legal online games may start promoting sports betting by sponsoring local teams.
A few current sponsorship deals between college teams and online casinos or sportsbooks are in place. The University of Colorado was the first to enter a sponsorship agreement with PointsBet, a leading sportsbook online. LSU also has an agreement in place with Caesars Sportsbook, and the University of Nevada has struck a deal with William Hill. Will WVU have a deal ahead? It is possible with operating sites in West Virginia, including DraftKings, PointsBet, and FanDuel, all offering online casinos and sportsbooks.
A new multi-year partnership has been announced between the WVU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Diversified Energy Corporation. This energy company will have a brand presence and is investing in Mountaineer sports. As a result of this partnership, Diversified Energy will be allowed to post signage of the Diversified Energy Terrace. Not only does this new agreement promote and support Mountaineer football, but it includes scholarship incentives, mentoring services, and internships.
Signs and merchandise that will include any Diversified Energy logo or information must also contain school colors based on WVU University Relations regulations. Tickets to games can be purchased by students using their WVUMix account through a WVU Portal.
Adding Diversified Energy to the list of supporters will help this program grow and continue to allow Mountaineer Sports Network to work with corporate partners to deliver radio and digital coverage of games and events. As a new energy partner of the Athletics program at WVU, Diversified Energy will be involved in various ways that enhance athletics departments as well as academics.
Over the years, WVU has climbed the ranks to being one of the best college football teams playing today. The football energy that is seen in current players is a result of ongoing support from sponsors, fans, and tremendous coaching staff. As new partnerships are formed, this team continues to gain support from corporations in West Virginia that not only strengthen a football program but help to expand educational opportunities for students and athletes.
