Headlines from the College Football World in 2017

May 29, 2017 by CFP Staff

If you've been keeping your eyes peeled in the world of college football then you may have noticed a few trends in the first half this year. Here are some of the biggest headlines that we've seen so far.

The Rise of the Quarterback

Last year seemed to be the year of the running back but so far in 2017, the quarterback is king. There are some really talented young quarterbacks coming onto the scene in 2017 that will be sure to shine. Ohio State and Oklahoma both have a couple of Texans that seem set to really break some records and lead their teams to glory.

Then we have the likes of Will Grier from West Virginia and Jarrett Stidham from Auburn that are real breakout stars. They both had transfer years away from the spotlight but now they're back to smash the competition.

Lamar Jackson is Back with a Vengeance

Last year, Lamar Jackson was the Heisman winner but he tapered off at the end of the season. He didn't really have much off season hype as a result of this but he'll be coming back strong at the start of the new one. He's a very competent player and the end of the season didn't end up doing him justice. Some players may be lax on him but this would be a mistake.

Jackson will be contending to take away Archie Griffin's exclusive title as the only back-to-back trophy winner. It's feasible, but there are obstacles in his way. If you want to bet on this being the outcome then you can use a range of sites. If you don't want to wait that long then you can use bingo sites or online casinos in the meantime, here's a list of the greatest sites to get you started.

Will the Big 12 Buck the 2016 Trend?

Last season was not the best year for the Big 12. The main contenders were very much out of the race before the conference play actually started. They had a bit of an exploration of expansion but no vote was ever taken. There were only 14 picks from the conference that made it into the 2017 NFL Draft.

It's not a totally dire situation though. Big seasons are expected from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, and what about Texas?

Does Tom Herman Have What it takes to Help Texas?

Tom Herman has only been at Texas for a few months now, but he has been busy! Aside from purchasing the most expensive lockers on the planet, he's been busy scouting for new talent. 247 Sports ranks the 2017 class at No. 26 overall, but five 4-stars have already given verbal commitments for 2018.

Longhorn fans are restless and expect to be back on top quickly. The 2017 season won't make or break Herman, but it will be the first impression that the audience get on him.

What are your top trends of 2017? Do you think we'll see even more upsets and changes in the next season? We can't wait to find out!
