James Madison Knocked Out Of First But Doesn't Drop Far; North Dakota State Takes Over Top Spot

October 10, 2021 by Staff

James Madison was a 28-27 loser at home on Saturday and, as expected, fell out of first-place in the Congrove Computer Rankings at CollegeFootballPoll.com. The Dukes, who have occupied the top slot since the preseason, didn't drop far as they land at No. 3 this week.

North Dakota State moves into familiar territory at the top of the heap.

Losses by No. 3 South Dakota State and No. 5 UC Davis contributed to a significant amount of movement in this week's rankings. The Jackrabbits lost 42-41 at home to Southern Illinois, and the Aggies were upset 27-17 at Idaho State. As a result, South Dakota State drops to No. 6 and UC-Davis crashes 9 spots to No. 14.

Defending national champion Sam Houston State moves up two spots to second.

Montana State rises one spot to No. 5 while Montana remains at No. 7.

The rest of Top Ten has Dartmouth at No. 8, followed by fellow Ivy Leaguer Princeton at No. 9 and Southern Illinois at 10.

Only 8 teams in the FCS remain undefeated while 11 are winless.
