Villanova, ranked 7th in last week's Congrove Computer Rankings at CollegeFootballPoll.com, was a 31-18 loser at home to 14-point underdog William & Mary, and  No. 9 Southern Illinois fell 23-16 at Northern Iowa on Saturday.

Otherwise, the top ten escaped unscathed.

Top-ranked Sam Houston State subdued Tarleton State 45-27, while No. 2 North Dakota State romped 44-2 over Indiana State in Fargo and No. 3 James Madison prevailed 45-21 over Elon in Harrisonburg.

4th-ranked Montana State was idle, along with No. 6 Eastern Washington, No. 11 UC Davis, No. 15 Prairie View A&M, and No. 17 ETSU.

No. 5 SE Louisiana escaped upset-minded McNeese State 23-20, and No. 8 Princeton opened the weekend's action with a 34-16 win on Friday night at Cornell.

10th-ranked Kennesaw State fell behind 21.5-point underdog Gardner-Webb with 43 seconds left, but scored the winning touchdown 28 seconds later to survive 34-30.

The computer had four opposite picks and won three of those, correctly piking Alabama A&M over Alabama State, Richmond over New Hampshire and Robert Morris over Hampton. The lone miss was its pick of Illinois State over Western Illinois as the Leathernecks won 38-31.

VMI scored 19 unanswered to beat Samford 46-45 after trailing 45-27 late in the 3rd quarter, and 3-point underdog went to Clinton, South Carolina and whipped Presbyterian 56-14.
