SEC Football Media Pick South Carolina and Alabama To Meet For Conference Title

'Bama Heavy Favorite To Win Conference Title

July 22, 2011

Defending SEC and national champion Auburn won't return to the SEC football championship game on Dec. 3, according to the members of the media who voted in the conference's preseason poll at SEC Media Days.

The Tigers were picked to finish 4th in the SEC West - behind Alabama, LSU and Arkansas - and didn't receive a single 1st-place vote.

Alabama, the 2009 national champion, is the overwhelming preseason favorite in that division while South Carolina gets a decisive nod in the SEC East. But few believe the Gamecocks can win the whole thing as West Division rivals Alabama, LSU and Arkansas all polled more voted than South Carolina.

South Carolina was steamrolled 56-17 by Auburn in last year's conference championship game.
