2014 College Football Conference Realignment

The team rosters of five conferences, plus the make-up of the independents, will be affected by realignment in 2014 and the ranks of the Football Bowl Subdivision will increase from 125 schools to 128 as Georgia Southern and Appalachian State enter the Sun Belt, and Old Dominion enters CUSA. In 2015, UNC-Charlotte is scheduled to join CUSA to become the 129th FBS member.

Here are the changes for 2014 and beyond (where applicable).

Note: The conference will re-name its divisions "East" and "West", dropping its "Legends" and "Leaders" identities. The East will contain Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers. The West will consist of Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin.

The Big Ten will begin a 9-game conference slate in 2016, playing all 6 schools from its own division and 3 cross-divisional games.
