President Ford Dies

Former
President Gerald R. Ford has died at the age of 93.
He was the only person to serve as President and Vice-President
without being elected to either office. After the resignation
of Spiro T. Agnew, Nixon nominated Ford as Vice-President as
he was confirmed by the Senate and House. He became Vice-President
on December 6, 1973.
The 38th president took office following Nixon's resignation
on August 9, 1974 at the height of the Watergate scandal.
Ford was a three-year letterman from 1932-1934 at Michigan as
a center and a linebacker. He played college football on Michigan
's 1932 and 1933 national championship teams. Ford was the Wolverines'
MVP in 1934 and played in the East-West Shrine Game on January
1, 1935. He also played in an exhibiton of college all-stars
against the Chicgao Bears in August of 1935. He is one just five
Michigan players to have his jersey, No. 48, retired by the school
in its illustrious history.
