Irma Aftermath Forces 2 Game Cancellations

September 13, 2017 by CFP Staff

The game featuring SEC East rivals Tennessee and Florida will remain in Gainesville, but 2 other games have been canceled in the aftermath of the devastating rampage by Hurricane Irma.

Georgia Tech's game at UCF was canceled as the National Guard uses the Knights' stadium as the staging ground for its relief and security operations.

FIU at Indiana was canceled in consideration of FIU's travel difficulties. The Hoosiers worked quickly to find a replacement and ironed out a deal to host FCS member Charleston Southern 0n what would have been an October 7th open date for both teams. Charleston Southern had this past weekend's game with South Carolina State wiped out by Irma.

Miami at Florida State had already been moved to October 7, thanks to a mutual open date. Miami also had to move its Thursday, October 12 game at home versus Georgia Tech to Saturday, October 14 to avoid a 5-day turnaround on games.

However, the SEC announced on Tuesday that the Tennessee-Florida game will remain in Gainesville and be played on Saturday.

It was also announced Tuesday that  USF will host Illinois as scheduled, and Bethune-Cookman and FAU still plan to play in Boca Raton.
