Games Affected by Hurricane Irma

September 8, 2017 by CFP Staff

The monster storm known as Hurricane Irma will be impacting Florida by this weekend. In recognizing the need to keep everyone safe, and allow the proper time for readiness and evacuations, several schools have had to make changes.

Florida State and Florida had originally moved their respective home openers from 7:30 p.m. to Noon on Saturday, but each determined it would be better to cancel them completely. FSU was slated to host Louisiana-Monroe while the Gators were set to entertain FCS member Northern Colorado.

USF's game at UConn was canceled due to travel concerns. It had tentatively been moved up to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

UCF's home game with Memphis has now been canceled. The American Athletic Conference opener for both teams had previously been moved up from Saturday to Friday.

The Miami (Fla.) game at Arkansas State was canceled earlier in the week due to travel concerns.

The canceled games cannot be rescheduled as there is no corresponding open date for both teams.

Even the NFL has been affected. The Miami Dolphins' NFL opener vs. Tampa Bay will be moved to week 11 and both will have to play 16 straight weeks.

FIU and Alcorn State will play Friday in Birmingham, Alabama at 6:00 p.m. at Legion Field.

Georgia Southern and New Hampshire will also play at Legion Field. That game will take place Saturday at 3:00.
