Defending national champion Alabama takes the No. 1 spot in the Preseason Super 16 Poll, released today by the FWAA and NFF (Football Writers Association of America, and the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall Of Fame).

The Big Ten leads all conferences with five teams in the Preseason Super 16 Poll. The Pac-12 and SEC each have three while the ACC and Big 12 have two each. Notre Dame represents the lone independent.

A total of 34 teams received at least one vote in the Preseason Poll.

Four games involving FBS teams kick off the season this Saturday, with the full kickoff weekend starting the following Thursday, Aug. 30.

The first regular season FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 4, to account for the games played on Labor Day.

Voters in the poll consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective.

Congrove's top 16 ballot was as follows: Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, USC, Michigan State, Auburn, Miami, Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Washington, Mississippi State, Northwestern, South Carolina, Wisconsin, and Stanford.
