November 5, 2017 by FWAA-NFF

NOTE: CollegeFootballPoll.com's Dave Congrove is among the voters.

Alabama and Georgia remained 1-2 in the poll for a second straight week, with the Bulldogs narrowing the gap in terms of points and first-place votes. Ohio State, after a road loss at Iowa, took a tumble from No. 3 all the way to No. 11. Penn State also slid five spots to No. 12 following a second straight road loss, this time to Michigan State, which entered the poll for the first time this season at No. 15

USC re-entered the poll at No. 16. Iowa State and Virginia Tech dropped out after losses. Notre Dame jumped to No. 3 and Clemson rounded out the Top 4.

The Big Ten led all conferences with four teams. The Big 12 and SEC followed with three each. The ACC and Pac-12 each had two, and the American and Independents had one each.

Voters in the poll consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective.

Congrove's top 5 this week had Alabama No. 1, followed by Georgia, Miami (Fla.), Wisconsin and Notre Dame.
