2015 College Football Conference Realignment

May 26, 2015 by Dave Congrove

UAB shut down its program after the 2014 season, but UNC-Charlotte moves up from the FCS to take the place of the Blazers in Conference USA. Navy migrates to the American Athletic Conference from the ranks of the independents.

Overall, the number of schools competing at the FBS level remains at 128.

Here are the changes for 2015.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

NOTE: The addition of Navy makes this a 12-team league and, as such, the first American Athletic Conference Football Championship will be played at the home site of one of the two division winners on Saturday, December 5. Oddly enough, Navy doesn't play its final game until a week later, but the annual showdown vs. Army is a nonconference affair.

The American Athletic Conference East Division will be comprised of UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, East Carolina, USF and Temple.

The West Division will consist of Houston, Memphis, Navy, SMU, Tulane and Tulsa.
