Oregon
State scored two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion in the final
6:02 of the game to rally past Missouri 39-38 in the Sun Bowl.
Head coach Mike Riley rolled the dice by going for two points
after the Beavers scored on a 14-yard pass with 22 seconds left
in regulation. Yvenson Bernard dove into the middle of the line
and, after several anxious seconds, the officials signaled that
the score was good.
Bernard's 7-yard TD catch with 6:02 left started the Oregon State
comeback.
It was Oregon State's eighth victory in its last nine games as
the Beavers finished the season 10-4. The heartbreaking loss
dropped Missouri to 8-5 and gave the Tigers their fifth loss
in the final seven games after they began the year with six straight
wins.
The Beavers improved their bowl record to 6-4 with their third
straight postseason win, while Missouri dropped to 10-14.
The two teams combined for over 1,000 yards of total offense
and the second-most combined points in the Sun Bowl's 73-year
history. |
