Cougars Roast Ducks
by Mike Mitchell 12/22/06
The Las Vegas Bowl was an ugly mauling in the desert as BYU dropped Oregon 38-8 to end the season with their 10th straight victory and hand the Ducks their fourth consecutive loss.
After averaging more than 36 points in each of the first nine games, Oregon scored a total of 56 in its last four games as the offensive spat and sputtered. Oregon was held to 120 total yards through the first three quarters and only managed 261 yards of total offense for the game. The Ducks didn't get on the scoreboard until they were down 31-0 in the fourth quarter.
Conversely, BYU went over the 30-point mark for the ninth time in its last ten games. The Cougars racked up 550 yards of offense with quarterback John Beck throwing for 375 yards and two touchdowns. Curtis Brown ran for 120 yards and two scores.
it was the first bowl win for the Cougars since the 1996 Cotton Bowl, and only their third bowl triumph in the last twelve tries.
Oregon has lost four straight bowl games. |
