Injury Updates

October 9, 2009

Florida head coach Urban Meyer says no word is coming on Tim Tebow until game day after his star QB suffered a concussion at Kentucky on September 26. Saturday's battle at LSU features two teams that have won the last 3 BCS titles, and 4 of the last 6. Despite a 5-0 start, LSU has the worst offense statistically in the SEC while Florida leads the conference on both sides of the ball.

Bob Stoops on Friday named Sam Bradford as his starting QB for the Sooners' home game against Baylor this week. Bradford injured his throwing shoulder in the opening game loss to BYU. Stoops isn't making excuses for Oklahoma's two 1-point losses to BYU and Miami. "I'm not sitting here foolishly, not understanding that we have had some difficult injuries, I do understand that. But I still feel that, as in the other night, that where we could have made a difference had nothing to do with injuries."

Baylor will be without dual-threat QB Robert Griffin who was lost for the season in the home game against Northwestern State (La.) two weeks ago. The Bears lost sr. defensive back and return specialist Mikail Baker in the same game. Backup QB Blake Szymanski missed last week's game vs. Kent State with a bruised shoulder that he received after relieving Griffin. 3rd-string QB Nick Florence guided Baylor to a 31-15 win over Kent.

Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant is suspended indefinitely, essentially because he lied to the NCAA about a visit to Deion Sanders' home in the offseason. The Cowboys visit Texas A&M.

Southern Miss sophomore QB Austin Davis is lost for the season. Redshirt junior Martevious Young will start for the Golden Eagles at Louisville on Saturday night. Dynamic RB Damion Fletcher and leading receiver DeAndre Brown return to the line-up this week after sitting out the UAB loss with injuries. Walk-on punter Peter Wilkes is in critical condition after being shot Thursday night at his home in Union City, Tennessee. However, officials retracted an earlier statement that said WIlkes had died from the injury early Friday morning. Wilkes was not on the travel squad for Saturday's game and has not played this season. Officials are reportedly investigating the incident as accidental or self-inflicted.

Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli returned to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday after leaving Saturday's game with a knee injury. Redshirt junior Nate Costs is expected to start this week's game at UCLA.
