Northwestern ended the nation's longest bowl losing streak at 9 games with a 34-20 defeat of Mississippi State in the Gator Bowl.
The Wildcats' only previous bowl win came in the 1948 season Rose Bowl over California (20-14) in the school's first bowl game. Northwestern is now 2-9 in its bowl history.
The loss ended a 5-bowl winning streak (tied for nation's best) for Mississippi State which last lost a bowl game in the 1998 season Cotton Bowl to Texas.
The Congrove Computer Rankings at CollegeFootballPoll.com forecasted a 1.39-point victory for Mississippi State.
