Paul Rhoads Caps First Season With Winning Record, Bowl Win
by CFP Staff
December 31, 2009
Minnesota turned the ball over twice deep in Iowa State territory and the Cyclones held on to win the Insight Bowl 14-13.
Iowa State was poised to let all of its 14-3 halftime lead disappear when it recovered MarQueis Gray's fumble at its 21-yard line with 4:04 to play.
Paul Rhoads posted a winning record (7-6) in his debut season, the first Cyclone coach to accomplish that feat since George Veenker in 1931.
The Golden Gophers have lost 4 straight bowl games, the last 3 of which have been in the Insight Bowl. Head coach Tim Brewster is 0-2 in bowl games at Minnesota.
QB Austen Arnaud ran 9 yards for a score and passed 38 yards to Jake Williams, all in a 4-minute span just before halftime.
Iowa State is 3-7 alltime in the postseason. |
