USC improved to 3-0 vs. Boston College and 7-1 in its last 8 bowl games with a 24-13 win over Boston College in the Emerald Bowl. The Trojans' also pocketed their 4th straight bowl victory.
USC entered the bowl season tied with Alabama for most bowl wins with 31 (now 32). Only 8 of USC's bowl wins have not come in the Rose Bowl and this game ended a string of four consecutive Rose Bowl appearances.
The Trojans have the highest winning percentage for teams that have played at least 20 bowl games.
Meanwhile, the Eagles lost their second in-a-row after winning 8 straight from 2000-2007.
USC leading rusher Joe McKnight (1,014 yards, 8 TD's) did not play amidst an investigation into his alleged improper use of an SUV. Allen Bradford had 17 carries for 71 yards in his absence, but the team had 88 total rushing yards.
Matt Barkley displayed the same inconsistency he had all season by following 2 TD passes with 2 INT's, but completed 27-of-37 for 350 yards. He finished his rookie season with 15 TD passes and 14 INT's. The touchdown tosses came on USC's first two possessions - both to Stanley Havili - and covered 53 yards and 5 yards. WR Damian Williams was unstoppable with 12 catches for 189 yards to end the year with 1,010 yards.
Boston College QB Dave Shinski completed just 14-of-33 for 218 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Rich Gunnell became the Eagles' all-time leading receiver by grabbing 6 catches for 130 yards, including a 61-yard TD. Leading rusher Montel Harris had 102 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.
