Penn State Rallies To Win

by CFP Staff
January 1, 2010

Joe Paterno notched his 394th win (394-128-3) with a 19-17 last-second victory over LSU in the Capital One Bowl.

The Nittany Lions gave up a 13-3 halftime lead but claimed victory on Collin Wagner's 21-yard field goal with 57 seconds left.

The game was played on a rain-soaked field in Orlando that was pocked with crater-sized divots. The field was more fit for a mud bog than a football game.

LSU was held to 9 first downs as its 4-bowl winning streak came to an end. The Tigers had not lost a non-conference game since falling to Iowa here in 2005.

Penn State improved its overall bowl record to 27-13-2, tied with USC for the best bowl winning percentage among teams with 20 or more bowl appearances. Of the schools' 27 bowl wins, 24 have come under Joe Paterno who leads the nation in bowl victories.
