Iowa's Shonn Greene Wins MVP, Then Says Goodbye
by Mike Mitchell January 1, 2009
Iowa junior running back Shonn Greene announced he would make an early exit to the NFL after an MVP performance in a 31-10 win over South Carolina in the Outback Bowl. Greene rushed for 121 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Hawkeyes snapped a two-bowl losing streak.
Greene finished his season with 1,850 yards and 20 TD's while surpassing 100 yards in all but one game.
The Gamecocks fell to 4-10 in bowl games.
Iowa finished the season strong with six wins in their last seven games to complete a 9-4 campaign.
South Carolina will enter the 2009 season on a 3-game losing streak.
Stephen Garcia had a nightmare start at QB for the Gamecocks as he threw three interceptions and lost a fumble in his first four series, and his team was in a 21-0 hole by halftime. It was 31-0 before South Carolina got on the scoreboard. |
