Wake Forest Takes Inaugural EagleBank Bowl
by Mike Mitchell December 20, 2008
Wake Forest avenged a regular season 24-17 loss to Navy by rallying for a 29-19 win in the inaugural EagleBank Bowl.
The Midshipmen scored the first 13 points of the game on a touchdown and two field goals. Meanwhile, Wake fumbled on its second possession and Sam Swank missed a 49-yard field goal early in the second quarter.
Six turnovers cost the Deacons dearly in the regular season contest, but Wake limited itself to that one giveaway in this contest.
Two Josh Adams touchdown runs put Wake Forest ahead 14-13 in the 3rd quarter, only to see Navy retake the lead at 19-14 early in the 4th. But the Deacons scored the final 15 points of the game, securing the win on Rich Belton's 35-yard run with 1:02 remaining after Navy failed to convert a 4th-and-10 on its own 28-yard line with 2:04 to go.
Wake has won five of its last six bowl games and is 6-3 all-time. Navy has dropped three straight and is 6-8-1 overall. Both teams finished the season 8-5. |
