Steve Spurrier is in his fifth season at South Carolina with a record of 35-27 (.565) and in his 25th season overall with a record of 224-108-2 (.674). Spurrier serves as the Gamecocks’ offensive coordinator and the defensive coordinator is Lorenzo Ward.
Randy Edsall is in his 11th season at UConn and overall with a record of 65-65 (.500). Joe Moorhead serves as the offensive coordinator for the Huskies and the defensive coordinator is Todd Orlando.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN SOUTH CAROLINA HAS THE BALL
Alshon Jeffery leads the Gamecocks with 43 catches for 735 yards and six touchdowns, becoming South Carolina's go-to receiver midway through the season. Jeffery is sixth in the SEC averaging 61.2 receiving yards per game and is the only freshman in the league's top 10.
T.J. Johnson is the only Gamecock offensive lineman to start all 12 games at the same position during the season.
South Carolina QB Stephen Garcia is 223-of-394 for 2,733 yards and 17 TD's.
UConn LB Lawrence Wilson leads the Huskies in tackles with 130 stops, including 10 TFL's. He leads the league in tackles at 11.23 per game and is fourth in the country in that category.
DE Lindsey Witten has 41 tackles with 11.5 sacks for minus-75 yards. He leads the BIG EAST Conference in sacks and is seventh in the nation.
DB Robert McClain is tied for second in the BIG EAST in interceptions this year with four and also was third on the team with 60 tackles.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN CONNECTICUT HAS THE BALL
CFP All-American LB Eric Norwood is tied for third in the SEC with 7.0 sacks this season. He is tied for eighth in the league with 11.5 total tackles for loss. He also leads the team with two interceptions, has recovered a fumble, forced a fumble, leads the team with 11 quarterback hurries and has blocked three kicks. He is the school's all-time leader in career sacks (29.0) and tackles for loss (54.5).
FS Chris Culliver ranks third on the team with 58 tackles including 38 solo stops. He logged 3.0 tackles for loss and two sacks and owns one fumble recovery.
CB Stephon Gilmore finished fifth on the team with 52 tackles on the season, including 5.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.
DE Devin Taylor finished the regular season with 26 tackles, including 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.
UConn's Jordan Todman rushed for 1,152 yards and 14 TD's in the regular season. He ranks 28th nationally in rushing yards per game and is tied for 17th in TD's.
RB Andre Dixon enters bowl season with 967 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns.
Junior QB Zach Frasier missed a half-dozen games due to injury but finished strong with 5 TD's and 2 INT's in the final 3 games of the season as UConn defeated Notre Dame, Syracuse and USF. Overall, Frasier completed 54.3% of his passes for 1,354 yards, 9 TD's and 9 INT's.
Sophomore Cody Endres saw significant action after Fraser was injured in the North Carolina game in week 2, completing 63.6% of his passes with 6 TD's, 4 INT's and the exact same yardage as Frazier (1,354).
DB Gilmore averaged 11.4 yards per punt return on 13 attempts, and FS Culliver was the leading kickoff returner with 22.5 per return.
PK Spencer Lanning leads the team in scoring after converting 17-of-20 field goals and making all 45 extra point tries. Lanning also serves as the punter and carries a 41.8 yard average with 9 punts over 50 yards and 15 inside the 20 yard line.
UConn PK Dave Teggart sealed UConn's season finale victory over USF a 42-yard field goal in blustery conditions. He is just 12-of-21 on the season, including just 1-of-3 from 20-29 yards and 3-of-8 from 40-49.
Desi Cullen averages 43.1 yards per punt for UConn and also has 12 touchbacks on kickoffs.
Four different UConn players have returned a punt or a kickoff for a touchdown during the 2009 season - Robbie Frey, Jordan Todman and Mike Lang have the KO return scores and Robert McClain had the PR touchdown.

The 2010 Papajohns.com Bowl will mark South Carolina's 15th bowl appearance overall... The Gamecocks are 4-10 in bowl games... After losing each of their first eight bowl contests, South Carolina has won 4-of-6. This is the
Gamecocks' first appearance in the Papajohns.com Bowl, but not their first in a Birmingham bowl game - they lost 24-14 to Missouri in the 1979 Hall of Fame Bowl which was also played at Legion Field.
Connecticut is making its 3rd consecutive bowl appearance and 4th overall. The Huskies are 2-1 in postseason play, including a 38-20 win over Buffalo at last year's International Bowl in Toronto.
